Chris Harms

Artist member since 2019
Toronto, Ontario

Chris Harms creates cosmic images using stained glass and vitreous paint, infusing a medieval medium with the spirit of space exploration. Layered in kiln fired glass, earthly objects orbit the wispy atmospheres of strange planets and cratered moons, hidden in the depths of outer space. All the while Harms continues his curious search for our place amongst the stars.

In 2016 after witnessing a rocket launch in French Guiana, I was determined to capture that feeling of awe and wonder in my art practice. Soon after, I turned my attention to stained glass and took an introductory glass painting/firing class, wanting to take a traditional art medium and mix it with modern stories of space exploration. Using age old techniques, and breaking a few rules, I can experiment with depth, layers and texture in this beautiful medium.

A self taught artist, living and working in Toronto.
